This map shows Italy during WWII. Italy had joined Germany as one of the Axis Powers. In cooperation with Germany, Italy occupied part of the Balkan and Greece. Italy was invaded by the Allies in 1943, which led to a split in which southern Italy was governed as the kingdom of Italy and northern Italy as the Italian Social Republic. In 1945 several local issues appeared, many of which were issued in the name of the Comitato di Liberatione Nazionale or National Liberation Committee, a partisan organization fighting the Social Italian Republic.
